My daughter, Rebecca (3) was the very happy recipient of a set of Kwik Stix 12 pk from the The Pencil Grip, Inc. company.
These beautiful paints come in 12 tubes that look similar to glue sticks. But they don’t work like glues sticks! These are a vibrant, smooth tempura paint that dry super-fast.
My children absolutely love to paint, but I am not a big fan of the mess- these provide the best of both worlds. We usually are very specific: Paint stays in the kitchen with a mat. But these are so quick -to-dry that I ended up taking them with us on errands and such. In fact, when my older kids were going to play music in a nursing home, I brought the paints with us and the younger children sat at a table and painted beautiful pictures- that they could immediately give to residents. It was so sweet.
Truly my children have used these every day since we received them, and they are still not tired of them. We have used them on several mediums with equally pleasing results. We have used “paint” paper, construction paper, stock paper, and they can even be used to decorate helium-filled balloons.
The really nice thing is that these have a lot of paint in them. In spite of using them every single day- we have not run out of any of the colors. There is a generous amount of paint in each tube, and because they are mess-free, there is no wasted paint!

One thing you will notice in these pictures is the lack of mats and smocks- when I say they are mess-free, I mean it! Occasionally one of the children have forgotten they are using paint because it is so mess-free, so they flip the paper over onto the table and continue to paint on the other side. When this has happened, the resulting small amount of paint that ends up on the surface just wiped right off, without staining or needing any special cleaner. I am very thankful because this exact scenario happened at the dentist’s office last week. I was so worried we had damaged the table, but was very happy to see it was not a problem!
I simply cannot say enough good things about these very affordable paints. These will likely be at the top of my “affordable gifts” list for my children’s young friends. I always have a difficult time coming up with affordable gift ideas that are fun and suitable for many ages- these will be perfect. I am considering getting another set for each child to keep in their art boxes. These come in smaller sets that will fit quite nicely and will let the children sit in separate room and continue painting for those days when getting along is not so easy.
