A unique challenge for home educators is getting a “credit” in PE. To be a high school credit, a class must be 180 hours. In the case of PE, students are required to obtain half a credit. We’ve done different things for different children. Anne decided she wanted to train for and run a 5K.

So she joined a running club at Southern Theological Seminary. She is a dual credit student at Boyce (Southern’s undergrad program) and this is an activity that the undergraduate students can do as well. At the beginning of the semester she did an assessment and stated her goal, which was to run the Great Commission Race (a 5K) without slowing to a walk or taking any breaks. Each training day she worked gradually toward her goal.

She worked our 4 days a week, and one of those days she went with the running club near campus. In the running club she found a person who kept nearly the same pace as she did, so the two paired up each week and during the actual race. This helped her be accountable and to be an encouragement to someone else.

Of course she finished the race and had a great time doing it! Way to go, Anne Mary.
