God can and will enable you to do whatever He calls you to do.
When we went to Kenya in 2013, my father and I were asked to teach on C. S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters. We had one evening to prepare, and limited resources. When I began to speak, I was afraid. I had never given any public speeches. I rarely spoke to strangers. But as I spoke to the group of pastors and teachers that was gathered, my fears disappeared. I felt the power of the Bible when I read it, I felt the Spirit of the Lord speaking through me even though on my own I could not speak.
God was able to use my lack of ability to show His power, and He can and will do the same through all of His people. God does not send us out without the resources to obey Him. When Jesus sent out His disciples before His ascension, He promised this: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” There is no task too great for Him.
When the Lord calls us to do something hard, let’s remember that “it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” We do not need to depend on ourselves, but can lean on “Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.”
God is able.
