I was reading through Kim Brenneman’s book: Large Family Logistics and was reminded of something I learned a long time ago, but had forgotten.
If you are trying to add something new to your life (a new habit, a new routine) the best way I have found is to attach this routine to something you already do every day. For example, if you want to add cleaning the bathroom sinks daily, you place the cleaner next to your toothbrush at night. In the morning, as you brush your teeth you will be reminded about the sink. It is best to attach a new habit to a very well-established habit so that it becomes as common to you as the first.
Another thing to do is to write down your new habit. According to many studies and my personal experience, writing down goals can help “seal them” in your mind so that they are more effortlessly accomplished.
So far, I am really enjoying this book. It has a lot of great reminders- as a mom it is easy to fall back into old habits and routines, even when you have found new ones that work better! This is like a refresher course for moms!
