Wheat-n-Things

Home Bread Baking is on the Rise
Local Couple Brings the Business Home

January 3, 2011, Louisville, KY – Wheat-n-Things, Louisville’s sole supplier of bulk wheat, is excited to announce that it has come under new ownership by local entrepreneurial couple, Duncan and Malia Russell. The Russells are no strangers to businesses with a focus on the home. Malia also operates Homemaking 911, helping families meet and overcome the demands of family life from home management to parenting and even homeschooling; and Duncan runs Cross Business Tools, a web-hosting provider for small and home-based businesses. Longtime customers of Wheat-n-Things, the Russells found that adding the business to their other work was a perfect fit.

“We love whole grains!” says Malia, explaining their decision to purchase the company. “It’s really a natural extension of what we were already doing. We’ve been grinding our own wheat and baking our own bread for years; and Wheat-n-Things was right there supplying our needs all along.” Now it’s even closer to home.

Wheat-n-Things was started eight years ago by the Crone family in Depauw, Indiana. The Crones also run Hillview Farm, producers of goat’s milk products and local honey, which Wheat-n-Things will continue to carry. In addition to all of the other great products—from popular brands like Nutrimill, Norpro, and Super Mom’s Beeyoutiful—and competitive prices that its loyal 350+ families have learned to count on, Wheat-n-Things is adding some new services everyone is sure to love.

Second Tuesday deliveries will continue on schedule in Louisville. But the Russells have also added the ability to pick-up orders by appointment at their cold-storage facility in Fern Creek. Wheat-n-Things now has a comprehensive online catalog and shopping cart at www.wheat-n-things.com where customers can place their orders with ease. And soon they’ll be able to pay online as well, but will continue to always have the ability to pay COD at pick-up.

Wheat-n-Things also carries a variety of gluten-free grains, beans, bread pans and knives, tortilla presses, and cookbooks.

Hi Malia! Is Wheat-n-things still operating? I live in the Louisville area, but I can’t seem to find any information on the business. The link to the website is no longer valid.

We sold it to Amy Akin and her family. Do you know them?
