Most of my readers know by now that the heart of our home is the culmination of each member’s identity in Christ. If each and every member of our home is living a life to be pleasing to the Lord, then the home will be a pleasant place, a place where we love one another, put one another’s interests ahead of ourselves, and are a testimony to the world of what a life filled with Christ’s love can do. That, simply put is the heart of our home.
Now, from a worldly viewpoint, the other heart of our home is the living room, our “hub” so to speak. Here is where we greet one another, snuggle on the couch to read books together, gather with our church family, have family discussions, and with our home businesses, we often have our laptops in there working while all the evening’s activities are going on around us. Our living room is also the “sick room”. When someone gets sick, the couch is the place they lay with their pillow and blankie so that they can be lovingly tended to by others, even as we go about our daily work.
This is also the room where we greet our guests. I cannot even name all the precious visitors we have had there: grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, book club girls, our minister, missionaries, neighbors, customers, and others.
The living room is often where ideas are born, discussed, rehashed, debated, rejected, affirmed, and acted upon.
Several years ago a friend gave me a certificate for a “free room makeover consultation.” This company would come in, look at what you already have around your house and re-do a room with your own stuff. I picked the living room and she made this room a very stylish room. She whisked away all the clutter (imagine that!) and placed items so beautifully and artistically that now everything in that room has a very specific place and there is little space for clutter. This was terrific because now, the “heart of my home” is very easy to clean and have “company ready.” This might be something to consider if you like to have guests over to visit, or would like to do so more.
Here is what I would like to know: Where is the Heart of Your Home?
Happy Homemaking!
Malia
THe heart of our home is the living room. It is were we visit, homeschool, rest and play games. With 4 boys, a lot of wrestling occurs there too! I love the idea of de-cluttering the area. Right now we are blessed to have a bouncy chair,2 little rocking chairs, an baby swing in there. And soon we will have a crawling baby, so I am sure we will be de-cluttering the bottom shelves very soon!
Congratulations on your little one, I will be praying for you both!
Jen
Many blessing to you and many thanks for your encouraging words!
I hope you win!!! Congratulations on your daughters upcoming marriage.
Christ is the center of our home! We live and learn as he would have us in our living room. It is a cozy room, but admittedly gets cluttered quickly. We don’t have a den, so we do all our learning, entertaining, and relaxing in that room. We actually have a classroom set up, but that has ended up being a “prep and storage” workroom. We prefer learning in the comfort of the living room.
Sent my last comment too soon!! Hope you win the appliances and congratulations on the impending addition of TWO new members of your family!! 🙂
I wquld say the dining room and kitchen are the heart of our home. It is where everyone ends up when there is a gathering and also where we spend most of our family time.
Christ is the center of our home as well. As for a physical gathering place, I would say the kitchen is the center in that respect, since that is where our family and guests are together in one body the most often. And where the most talking and laughing goes on. 🙂
Christ is the heart of our home. Without him, we wouldn’t have a home. The heart of our house is the kitchen. No matter how nice and comfy I make the living room, everyone gathers in the kitchen.
Jesus Christ will always be the center of everything that we do! Praise and thanksgiving goes to our saviour so that we are able to have a wonderful home to enjoy with our family. The heart of our home is the kitchen, where we cook, homeschool, and congregate much of the time. Congrats to your family on the wonderful events in your lives!
The heart of our home is our kitchen table. We love the time we spend there talking, playing games, eating, sharing, and schooling. I believe it is the place in our house where we meet to grow closer to each other and to Christ. Often times we read our scriptures there and our little ones work on activities that bring us closer to each other and to Christ. The love and peace that’s felt there is so comforting!
Congratulations to both you and your daughter!!
On Saturday mornings, the heart of our home is our bed. That’s where my husband and I and our three boys can be found. 🙂
Our center of our home is Jesus Christ. As we seek to follow Him every day, we use the living room as the physical center of our home. We are using it for many things right now, including school and family time.
May Christ bless you all as you seek to know and serve Him.
The heart of our is Jesus. The center of our home is my husband and the hub of our home is the sunroom. We do everything in here. OUr books, TV, comfy furniture, dog and office are all here. We homeschool, have daily devotions, family meetings and play in the sunroom. Everyone ends up in this room and most start the day here. Malia, I hope you win the washer and dryer.
The heart of our home is our family room. It is where we all are most of the time and Jesus is the ruler of our heart.
What a beautiful truth, that Christ is the heart of all we do, including running our lives and home. the physical heart of our home is what ever room we land in as a group with a book or puzzle – often our living room or kitchen table….but sometimes a bedroom floor or mom and dad’s bed!
The room that is the heart of our home is the kitchen/living room w/fireplace. The real heart of our home is Christ. Without Him we wouldn’t be here.
Wow! What a great opportunity to start a young couple’s new home with new appliances. Good luck. I hope you win. Congratulations to your daughter and son-in-law and to you as a family on your great news x2.
The heart of our home is probably our living room as well. We all have our comfortable spot and our computers are there too. It seems that is where we spend the most time.
Blessings, Theresa
The heart of our home is the dining room. Although we have a small dining room table (only seats four) it’s big enough for us. We do our school there and play games there as well. Best wishes to Christina and may God bless her home as well. May God always be the Heart of Her Home!
Christ is the center of our home as well, which has never been made more clear than now when we are in the middle of a transition in our lives, and we currently live in a hotel. A home is not the walls around us, but being together and having Christ at the center.
THe heart of our home is Christ. Our physical home is a long ranch construction, and the family room, kitchen and dining room run together in a long 40 foot “galley” type situation. My huaband put his computer on the peninsula in our kitchen, because though it’s unsightly, he can be close to me and we can talk while we’re going about feeding our children and family, making food for church fellowships, and preparing for guests, which we try to have at least once a week. This area is where we spend most of our time and have most of our interaction.
Christ is the heart of our home. We truly try to glorify Him in all that we do, think and say. The physical center of our home would be our kitchen/dining area. We homeschool around the table. The kids sit at the breakfast bar and chat while I am cooking. At times the kitchen is so full- I have a hard time getting my cooking done! 🙂
The place where we all gather is the kitchen. It’s the first room you enter when coming in and where there is food, there are people gathered around. Making Christ the heart of your home is the only way to truly have a peaceful home. God bless you, Christina and Jonathan!
Congratulations Malia! The heart of our home is certainly the LR…it is where we gather as a family to start our homeschool day, read our bibles, snuggle on the couch. It’s where I have my quiet time and where the hubby and I reconnect after a long day!
Our heart is the kitchen in which we eat, read, school, pray, play legos, and share our time.
What a great gift that would be and a wonderful way to share Christ with so many people! I am pulling for you and will add a link to my blog!
The heart of our home would have to be the kitchen. It’s just me and all boys around here, so we do spend a great deal of time eating, talking and just plain goofing around in our kitchen. Fun times!
God has blessed me with a wonderful husband and 2 great sons. Our supper table is the heart of the home, where we gather each night for supper, talk about our day and bible study.
Wow! What a great opportunity for Christina & Jonathon! I hope you win this for them – what a blessing it would be!
As for our home – it is hard to pick just one place to call the heart of our home – we curl up together on the sofas, we sit around the table chatting, we prepare meals together – we just always seem to be in close proximity :)! But if I had to pick – I think I would pick the LR/DR.
Good luck!
The heart of our home is the kitchen. My kids sit at the island and we make food together, eat together and talk about life and grow together in our faith in Jesus. We are increasingly there these days as we have 2 kids with newly diagnosed food intolerances. We are so thankful to have a kitchen to prepare the food we need to keep our whole family healthy!
The heart of our home is the people in it! My husband and 6 kids at home (3 have grown and moved) and I are happy to live in a mobile home in beautiful NW Alabama. It is small and the kitchen, dining table and living room are all within sight of each other. It’s crowded, but it’s paid for and we are thankful to the Lord for that!
The heart of our home is where we sit down to eat, now most of the time this is in our kitchen, but at times it may be out at a restaurant, car, or picnic table outside or park. What truly makes it the heart of our home is not the location but what transpires during that time. For us it is where things are prepared with love and thanksgiving, where my family prays and thanks God for the blessing of nurishment. It is time to fellowship. My children are still very young so they are learning (as are we as parents) what wonderful opportunities can take place with fellowship, not only with each other but internally as well. Our kitchen has become a place to learn fullfillment not only in our bodies but also in the first steps to growing in our relationship to Christ, through that prayer and conversation.
The heart of our home is the kitchen. Common I know but it truly is the place were everyone congregates, whether just us, family, or friends. Despite having a “schoolroom” we end up doing most of our homeschooling at the kitchen table! My desk is the place I keep all my “stuff” but I still pay bills and work on my laptop in the kitchen. Maybe it has to do with our love of food!
I hope you win this incredible blessing for your daughter but if not then at least they have “won” each other! What could be better than that!
The heart of our home is the living room.
Yeah & yeah! two new addtions to your family almost at the same time . I agree totally Christ is the heart of our home . We center all our efforts on what would please him and honor him . Our home is truely more peaceful and runs much smoother since our focus has turned from the world and tuned into centering on Christ. Blessings.
“Every good and perfect thing is from above” and you have been abundantly blessed. Thank you for sharing the blessings and for all the wonderful help you give to us through your web-site.
The kitchen is the heart of our home. We cook talk about life etc,. etc. May the Lord bless these two young people…
Congratulations! The heart of our home would be the living room it is were everyone gathers together to hang out. The 2nd would have to be my sons room that is were we read our Bible study discuss the word and pray
What a wonderful idea!!
Well, the heart of our home is the kitchen/dining room. It is comfy and usually filled with nutritious food and hungry children. We see and taste, literally, Gods provision for our family there. We have wonderful conversation around our table and welcome many guests there, It is filled with laughter and even singing.
I hope this works for you.
I love to “talk” my Christian friends without even leaving the house. Thank you for being there. Blessings on the upcoming wedding!
Congrats on the wedding and pregnancy. The little one has the best home right now in a warm, nourishing womb. So thankful God put it on your heart to have a wonderful home for your family and to help others do the same.
The heart of our home (at least physically speaking) is definately our kitchen. We love to be in the kitchen cooking and talking and doing school and playing games. I hope your daughter and soon to be son in law win the contest
The heart of our home is usually our family room. We watch family movies together while eating popcorn and, for me, working a puzzle on the tall kitchen table that has 6 chairs. We bring company to this room. It has a large comfortable sofa and two comfortable chairs. We were given a large flat-screen tv so it’s in there as well and fun to watch our movies or Sky Angel programs on. We are surrounded by books in this room so it’s very cozy for reading. God bless your efforts on behalf of your daughter and ‘new’ son!
What a great idea!
God bless you for blessing your daughter and her fututre husband. You are also setting a wonderful example.
My family is beginning to work on putting Christ at the center of our lives and home. As far as our favorite gathering spot, it is just outside my back door. My backyard is the space where my children play, laugh, giggle, run, jump, hide, and enjoy being young. It is the place where family and friends gather for celebrations and cook outs. My backyard is home to many campout staycations and smore roasts. It is home to numerous butterfly plants and a brand new veggie garden. It is ever changing but remains the heart of our home.
What a wonderful give away. What a blessing to a newly married couple!
Jesus is certainly the center of our home, however, when He is replaced by business, tiredness or laziness, there is a definite change in atmosphrere of our home. The peace is gone and frustration, fighting, and overwhelming feelings take over. I am so glad that Jesus gives us His new mercies every morning and each new day is a blessing from Him.
I like the idea of redoing a room using what you already have in creative ways, Thanks for sharing. God Bless you and your family!
The heart of our home is THE LORD JESUS!!! John 6:20 “It is I. Do not be afraid”
The heart of our home is the kitchen and the family room.
Good luck! I hope you are able to win the washer/dryer set for the newlyweds!
Blessings~
